Hui Hu, PhD President
Dr. Hu is a medical imaging veteran with over 20 years experience in multi-national, midsize, and startup companies. He served as Senior Physicist at GE Healthcare for 9 years. In this role,
he designed several GE flagship products, including the LightSpeed (multi-slice) CT scanner. His work has been widely
cited (see Google Scholar). After GE, Dr. Hu founded HInnovation, an imaging software start-up which was acquired by Vital Images in 2004.
As the founder and CEO of HInnovation, his role ranged from fund raising, team building, product development, FDA
clearance, to business/market development and merger & acquisition. Dr. Hu is also the Principal Investigator
of several NIH, NSF and other SBIR grants. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of Utah in 1989
and his B.S. in Physics from Beijing University in 1984.
William Kerwin, PhD Vice President, Research and Development
Dr. Kerwin is an expert in cardiovascular MRI and medical image processing with more than 12 years experience. HIs work has appeared in more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, numerous book chapters, and more than 100 conference presentations. (see
PubMed and Google Scholar) Dr. Kerwin is also on the faculty of the Department of Radiology at the University of Washington and the Associate Director of its Vascular Imaging Laboratory. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from Johns Hopkins University in 1999. He also received an M.S. in electrical engineering from Stanford University in 1992 and a B.S. in electrical engineering (biomedical option) from Carnegie Mellon University in 1989.
Mike Hartmann, MS MBA Vice President, Business and Product Development
Mr. Hartmann has broad experience in the MRI and diagnostic drug industry. He began his career in GE Healthcare's MRI business, where he started in engineering and rose to GE's first 3T product manager. In this role, he designed, launched, and marketed GE's first 510k cleared 3T MRI scanner. After GE, Mr. Hartmann joined EPIX Medical where for 6 years he oversaw collaborations with major MRI manufacturers and universities. He also directed a group of researchers that designed and implemented the clinical trials imaging contrast agents. After EPIX, Mr Hartmann joined Molecular Insight Pharmaceuticals as Director of Cardiac imaging, where he designed and implemented a pivotal phase 2 trial of a metabolic radiotracer. Most recently Mr Hartmann's was the marketing manager for a dedicated MRI manufacturer.
Dominic Tong, M.D., Chief Medical Officer
Dr. Tong has over 15 years of diverse healthcare practice and management experience in the academic, public and private sectors and nearly 6 years of industry experience in the biopharmaceutical and medical device space with a cardiovascular focus at the Johnson & Johnson. His roles at Johnson & Johnson included business development, clinical research, and medical affairs. Prior to joining VPDiagnostics, he led a consultancy on early-stage medical technology development. He received his B.A. in Biology from University of Hawaii and his M.D. from Columbia University. Post-graduate training included diagnostic radiology residency and fellowship training in Columbia University and at UCLA Medical Center.
DongXiang Xu, PhD Vice President, Engineering Dr. Xu is an expert in image processing, medical image analysis technologies and software engineering. He has over 10 years of diversified experience working as R&D Engineer, Computer Scientist and Senior Research Fellow in both industrial and academic areas. He has been doing research on atherosclerotic disease with MRI for 7 years and playing the key role in algorithms and system prototype development and product architecture design. Dr. Xu is also the director of Reading Center in Vascular Imaging Lab at University of Washington.
